About
Why a Falling Down fan site?
Because as a longtime fan of cinema, part-time filmmaker, and a student of screenwriting, I marveled at this fascinating film and its well-written script.
Falling Down is not a perfect film; it has flaws and mistakes and scenes I felt should have been cut or changed. But it is a very good one, in my opinion, and well worth keeping alive in the public’s mind. It’s a very unusual film that caused controversy 20 years ago when it was first released, going so far as to make the cover of Newsweek magazine as a symbol of White male victimhood.
I believe it deserves its own fan site, and since I couldn’t find one I decided to make my own. I know I’m not alone in my appreciation for this film; whenever I wear my Falling Down t-shirt in public, fans come out of the woodwork to comment on the movie, tell me what a great film it was, to share their favorite scenes and swap a few snippets of dialogue. I also wanted to bring a deeper level of film criticism and analysis to the discussion. Another reason is that I have one of the largest (if not the largest) collection of Falling Down memorabilia in the world, and I’d prefer to share it with other fans instead of leaving it hidden and boxed up.
If you would like to contribute something to my collection or to the site, please contact me. Maybe you’re a cast or crew member who has some interesting or funny memories from the shoot. Maybe you’re another Falling Down fan who has film memorabilia (or photos of film memorabilia) you’d like to share. Or maybe this film spoke to you when you first saw it, and continues to resonate with you or your life, and you want to share your thoughts.
It took me years to collect all my Falling Down memorabilia and materials and months to research the film, write up my commentary, and assemble this web site (though I had excellent help from a certain web site designer). It was an enormous amount of work, and I did the best I could.
So poke around, learn some fun facts about the film, read my (and others’) opinions on it, get as little or as much out of it as you like. I hope you enjoy it, and thanks for visiting.
